A Sunday Afternoon in the ByWard Market (Ottawa)

About us

Ok, this is what we wrote before leaving on our worldwide trip in 2013…

Sixteen years ago, working at the then School of Graduate Studies and Research, University of Ottawa, Anne and Justin met. Thinking Justin batted for the other team, Anne invited him for a hiking and camping weekend where they would share a tent and companionship. Instead of simple companionship, love was found and it blossomed to a wedding in 2000, a tiny blue-eyed baby girl in 2001 and a perfectly blond baby boy in 2003.

We have been quite privileged to have family around who is always willing and happy to help. Without the help of four very generous grandparents, life as we know it would not exist. Justin and I have been able to travel extensively while the children have benefitted from many extracurricular activities. We also have wonderful friends with whom we have shared many fun evenings, even weekends (below is our family sitting on a lazy chair in a luxurious home in Lac Tremblant Nord courtesy of the Rivet family).

So even though we have a nice large corner lot home, two very stable executive jobs and an extensive circle of friends and community ties, we need to escape, find a new path for ourselves and understand our part in this big world of ours. We believe that connecting with other people from different parts of the world will somehow help us understand what we are all about. By helping others and hopefully our environment, we will be teaching our children to pay forward and reap benefits from those experiences.

Today, we look like this, but we are still travelling…

    Hi Anne and Justin,
I got your Christmas letter the other day. I’m very happy to hear from you. Looking at the picture on this blog, I was totally surprised. Your kids got so big! 8 years means a lot for them and you, Justin as well. Where is your hair, buddy?
I’m looking forward to seeing you both in 2014 in Japan. I just can’t wait until then!
Please keep in touch. Take care.

    Hi Anne and Justin,
I’m preparing to send my Christmas letter to you. I guess you are excited to make plans for the next year.
By the way,I deeply apologize for my rude remarks about Justin. I’ve kept thinking that was a bit out of line, but I’d really like you to realize I meant nothing offensive.
Please email me if you have time.
    Have a happy holoday season.
