Gatineau Park and Leamy Lake

Gatineau Park covers more than 361 km². The key sites include the Mackenzie King Estate, Meech Lake, Pink Lake, Lusk Cave and the scenic lookouts. On weekends and in good weather the southern sector, closest to Ottawa and Gatineau, often fills up, which can mean intermittent road closures and full parking lots. The Visitor Centre is in Old Chelsea, outside Gatineau city, and keeps winter hours from Nov 1 to April 30: weekdays 9 am to 4 pm, weekends 9 am to 5 pm, closed Dec 25. Paid parking there started Sept 1, 2026, with the first 30 minutes free.

Pink Lake is meromictic: its upper and lower water layers never mix, and the deepest 7 m has no oxygen. Swimming is not allowed. The 2.3 km loop has several sets of stairs and closes in winter. The Mackenzie King Estate grounds in Chelsea are free and open year-round, but the museums there close in winter and Moorside is closed for repairs for the 2026 season. A Gatineau Park season parking permit costs $110.38 with tax. Paid lots are the Mackenzie King Estate, Meech Lake, Philippe Lake, La Pêche Lake, Leamy Lake Park and the Visitor Centre; all other park lots are free.

Leamy Lake Park, in the Hull sector, is on Fournier Boulevard, and walkers and cyclists can reach it by the Leamy Lake Pathway. It has two volleyball courts (bring your own net), a playground, a picnic area, charcoal barbecue pits and paddleboard rental by the beach. More than 180 bird species have been recorded there, and northern map turtles nest near the Màwandòseg Bridge. Dogs and pets are not allowed on the beaches. See /outdoors/ for more.
