It depends on what you are looking for. If you want to be downtown and eat out, check out the ByWard Market, Centretown, Chinatown, Little Italy or the Glebe. Looking for shops and streets in the west end? Check out Westboro, Hintonburg and Kanata. Want the suburbs south and east? Try Barrhaven, Nepean and Orléans. Each page shows you the top three places on each list inside a mapped boundary.
Questions
How do you decide which places are in a neighbourhood?
By map, not by name. We take each place's saved coordinates and see if they are within a City of Ottawa boundary for that area. We do not use the name, address, postal code or distance.
Is there a ranking within each neighbourhood?
No. Each place keeps its original citywide rank and Score, so if a restaurant is ranked #20 in Ottawa it will show as #20 on the area page, not #1.
Why do some neighbourhoods share places?
The boundaries come from business improvement areas, Ottawa Neighbourhood Study areas, a district authority area and former cities. They can overlap because they all cover different areas.
Are Kanata, Nepean and Orléans included?
Yes, all three have their own guide. Kanata and Nepean were separate cities until they amalgamated with Ottawa in 2001, and we use the old city boundaries for both.
